The choice of
“Made in France”

For UPSA, choosing “Made in France” means proving that another path is possible: one of a sustainable and responsible economy for future generations. It’s a commitment to strengthening our health and industrial sovereignty—ensuring zero shortages for our patients, creating jobs, and contributing to social cohesion across our regions. It’s a choice to green our industry. And it’s a choice to promote our know-how on the international stage.

“Made in France” to strengthen our sovereignty

For 90 years, UPSA has been manufacturing its medicines in France, in the Lot-et-Garonne region. This local commitment is what sets us apart—choosing year after year to invest in our industrial infrastructure, in our R&D capabilities, and in the excellence of our people.

We are the leading manufacturer of paracetamol-based medicines in France. And our ambition goes even further: to produce our medicines using 100% French-sourced paracetamol.

Choosing “Made in France” means actively working toward health and industrial sovereignty. Because we produce our medicines in Agen, we can guarantee zero shortages for our patients—even during periods of high demand—and ensure uninterrupted access to their treatments.

We create jobs not only at our production sites, but also indirectly across our supplier network. Finally, we support initiatives within our local ecosystem, thus contributing in a lasting way to the social cohesion of our regions.

In 2024, UPSA was selected as one of the winners of the “Made in France” Great Exhibition — a recognition of our commitment to promoting national sovereignty and of the excellence of our teams.

“Made in France” to green our industry

Another key impact of choosing “Made in France” is the reduction of our environmental footprint at the local level. To source our materials, UPSA prioritizes short supply chains. Today, 80% of our suppliers are based in France.

We are also investing to rebuild a fully French supply chain for the production of paracetamol’s active ingredient through two major projects: one with chemical manufacturer Seqens in Roussillon (Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes), and the other with Toulouse-based start-up Ipsophene in Occitanie.

Our long-term goal: to rely exclusively on French-produced paracetamol.

Greening our industry also means making substantial investments to improve the energy efficiency of our industrial sites in Agen — including the installation of heat pumps and photovoltaic canopies over parking areas.

On the product side, UPSA is committed to eco-design: 75% of our products (by volume) have already undergone a Life Cycle Assessment.

In 2023, UPSA was awarded the Grand Prix des ETI BFM Business 2023 in the Made in France category, demonstrating that it is possible to produce in France using short distribution channels!

“Made in France” to shine internationally

Finally, “Made in France” is a true mark of quality on the international stage, reflecting the heritage of our expertise and our capacity for innovation. UPSA already exports more than 57% of its volumes to over 60 countries across Europe, Africa, and Asia.

This “France label” enables us to conquer new markets, such as our recent expansions in China, Kenya, and Saudi Arabia. Ultimately, it contributes to enhancing France’s global influence.

Choosing “Made in France” is an ambitious and demanding path. But in our view, it is the only path toward a sustainable and responsible economy. And it is ours — for well-being, quality of life, and responsible action.
