How to digest well: Our tips

To promote good digestion, a few simple tips can sometimes help prevent mild digestive disorders.

Improve digestion1

Some digestive discomfort can be relieved and digestion improved by following these simple rules:

  • Eat meals at regular times, in a relaxed setting
  • Eat slowly: thorough chewing allows better absorption of nutrients
  • Drink enough water, but not excessively
  • Limit certain foods as much as possible:
    • very fatty foods (fried items, cold cuts, rich sauces)
    • spicy foods
    • stimulants like coffee and tea
    • foods that increase air intake: carbonated drinks, chewing gum, “airy” foods (meringues, sandwich bread)
    • alcoholic beverages
  • Avoid smoking
  • Avoid tight clothing around the abdomen
  • After meals:
    • avoid lying down
    • take a short “digestive” walk
Did you know?

Some foods promote good digestion, such as fennel or the probiotics found in certain yogurts, and can also help relieve digestive discomfort after meals.

Eating a balanced diet and engaging in daily physical activity are strongly recommended in all cases (more tips available at www.manger-bouger.fr).
